I created this activity to help my students' number sense and to understand the facts that make up a Fact Family and Number Bond. The CCSS expect students to move from a concrete representation of numbers to a pictorial representation using pictures, and lastly to an abstract representation with numbers.
This activity is taking the students through all three steps to see how they each relate to each other.
Included in this download is:
- The Story of 5 Mini-Book with detailed directions on assembly. In addition, there are real photographs showing how the mini-book looks on each page when it is assembled.
- A Ten Frame that can be photocopied for each child to use. I included two ten frames on the sheet to conserve paper. Print out the Ten Frame on a thicker cardstock and cut it down the middle. You can laminate each Ten Frame for it to last throughout the year.
- If you do not want the Mini-Book cover to print in color, just print in grayscale or use a photocopier.
