Included in this unit is:
- 1 M-A-C-H-I-N-E-S Flip-Flap Book® - The students will have the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned about Simple Machines. This book is to be used as an EXTENSION and/or expository writing resource to your lessons on Simple Machines.
They will:
- write what a Simple Machine is and list the 6 types of simple machines
- define force
- define energy
- use a picture to decipher the type of simple machine that is shown, draw a picture showing where this specific simple machine can be used, and write a caption explaining the illustration (this will be done for the pulley, screw, wedge, lever, inclined plane, and the wheel and axle}
- look at a picture of a person doing some type of work, label the type of simple machine that is being used, write 2 additional examples of this type of simple machine that is used in our daily lives {this will be done for a lever and an inclined plane}
- describe a situation where a wheel and axle is used to make work easier and illustrate your description
- [OPTIONAL PAGE - OPINION WRITING} students will choose which simple machine is the most useful simple machine for our daily lives, provide 3 reasons to support their claim, then write a short paragraph using a topic sentence, supporting details, and a conclusion
