This Penguin Math Station resource is JAM PACKED with Chilly Fun!! This resource can be used in your math centers or stations, during a guided math group, or to play a game of "Waddle." Waddle is the game of scoot, but instead of walking from desk to desk, the students waddle like penguins from desk to desk to work on the next task card!
Included in this kit are 6 adorable penguin math stations/centers:
- Penguin Line Up
- 60 Penguins w/ 2-digit and 3-digit numbers
- 4 Icebergs to lay the Penguins on Penguin Line Up - Students arrange the penguin numbered cutouts on an iceberg from Least to Greatest and/or from Greatest to Least. There is a recording sheet so the children can record the penguins from least to greatest or greatest to least. CCSS (2.NBT.1)
- Penguin and Ice Block Number Bonds
- 12 Penguin Number Bonds The students will use a dry erase (after lamination) to decompose the 3-digit number into hundreds, tens, and ones and then write the expanded form on the recording sheet. CCSS (2.NBT.1) (2.NBT.3) (2.NBT.5) (2.NBT.7)
- What's my Value Penguin?
- 24 Fuzzy Chick Penguin Cards with a 3-digit number This is a GREAT set to play "WADDLE" with! The students read and write the 3-digit number that is on the task card and then write the value of the underlined digit. CCSS (2.NBT.1)
- Odd & Even Penguin
- 30 Rockhopper Penguin Cards with odd or even numbers. There are 2-digit numbers and 3-digit numbers. The students will organize the odd penguins on the Odd Iceberg and the even penguins on the Even Iceberg. Then record their odd and even numbers on the recording sheet.
- Penguin Number Bond Fact Families
- 24 Chilly Willy Penguins Cards with missing addends. One set of cards will equal 10, the other sets of cards are fact families for 5,6,7,8,9,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19. The students will use dry erase markers to create the Penguin number bond (after lamination) and then record their number bonds and fact families on the recording sheet. CCSS (2.OA.2)
- Adding Penguins
- 12 Adorable Penguins with 2 3-digit numbers to add. These problems do not require regrouping (renaming, carrying). There are 3 different recording sheets to accompany this activity (vertical addition with boxes, triple number bonds for decomposition of the numbers to add the hundreds, tens, and one and the last recording sheet has an example of the decomposition process of addition.
