Measurement can be fun! Get ready for a Fun-Filled Measurement Math Day with this hands-on NON-STANDARD measurement resource featuring Penny from the story Measuring Penny!
How do you introduce your unit on Measurement? I always introduce my Measurement Unit using the book titled Measuring Penny written by Loreen Leedy.
This Mini-Book Activity is based on this wonderful story! (The mentor-text Measuring Penny is NOT INCLUDED in this unit. However, I have provided a link in the product where it can be purchased.)
This unit includes:
- Penny Ruler - A non-standard measurement tool for the students to use to measure various objects around the classroom.
- A Non-Standard Measurement Mini-Book Printable with 10 pages of classroom objects to measure using the Penny Ruler. The last page is where the students will make observations about their measurements and compare their data.
- A Home-School Connection Homework Activity where the students will use their Penny Rulers to go on a measurement hunt throughout their house and measure objects using their Penny Ruler as a non-standard unit of measure.
I have included photographs of my own students completing the activity in my classroom. This unit has been Kid-Tested and definitely Approved :)
